Bus stop for choc

A DIABETIC was left shivering in the cold for half an hour after a bus driver refused to let her on board with a cup of hot chocolate. Heather Wallace, of New Cheveley Road, Newmarket, said she was appalled by the Stagecoach driver’s insensitive ban as she tried to catch a bus from Cambridge on her way home from Addenbrooke’s Hospital. She said: “I have to go to Addenbrooke’s a lot and as a diabetic I often need a sweet drink to keep my blood sugar stable, so I normally carry a flask.” But Alan Woods, operation manager for Stagecoach, defended the ban, saying “The company would be held liable for damages if movement on the bus caused a passenger to spill hot liquid on themselves or another person.” Cambridge Evening News 30/11/04.
