NURSING home staff have told patient Gladys Gornall to go outside if she wants a cigarette - even though she’s 93. But wheelchair-bound Gladys, who only began smoking ten years ago when she was widowed, fumed: “I’ll catch my death out there. I should at least be allowed to have a fag in my own room - I am an adult, after all.” Bosses said the indoor smoking ban at Norwood Lodge in Portishead, Somerset, was a health and safety issue.
