Tatty ted alarm

A NEW warning has been issued to parents and teddy bear collectors in Edinburgh over the safety of their stuffed toys. Geraldine Elliott, of the shop and doll’s hospital on the Canongate, Edinburgh, warned that elderly bears stuffed with foam that does not meet modern safety standards can be a “serious fire hazard”. She said: “I’ve no doubt the vast majority of people who own teddies don’t realise how serious the health risk is to themselves should the worst happen and a teddy catches fire. All bears, and especially those aged 30 to 35 years, that have foam inside them should come into the hospital for appropriate treatment.” The Scotsman 3/1/07.
