Height of lunacy

STAFF at Britain’s most secure mental hospital have been banned from hanging Xmas decorations unless they have height training. NHS workers at Broadmoor have been told not to stretch “above normal reach from the floor” unless they are qualified. They must have attended a “working at height” course or face disciplinary action. A worker who saw the warning on a noticeboard said: “The lunatics really are running the asylum. Too many managers have too little to do with their time. It’s making us a laughing stock.” Broadmoor is one of dozens of hospitals and clinics run by West London Mental Health NHS trust. All 4,000 workers face the same extraordinary ruling. The Trust said: “The aim is to protect staff. We have a duty to make them aware of health and safety regulations.” The Sun 21/12/06.
