No to yo-ball

THE government has banned a controversial new toy, the yo-ball - the first ban on a toy for more than a decade. Trading standards officers across the country have been warning of the dangers of the toys, fluid-filled brightly coloured plastic balls on rubber strings. The officers said there was a risk that children could be strangled if the string became wrapped around their necks, because it constricts. A spokesman for the Department of Trade and Industry said: “The supply of yo-balls is banned with immediate effect after tests have shown that the toy could pose a risk of strangulation.” Evening Standard 24/4/03.
