OAP explosion fear

A SICK pensioner who relies on an oxygen cylinder to breathe has been banned from her local club - because she’s a fire hazard. Smoker Gillian Western, 66, has been barred from the Royal British Legion in case her life-saving cylinder explodes. Wheelchair-user Gillian, who suffers from chronic bronchial asthma, said: “I have been a member for more than 25 years and have been going in there with the cylinder for two years. I think they are just being petty." Jeff Harrison of the Royal British Legion in Cheshire said it was the committee's decision on how they run the club. “There is a health and safety difficulty because of smoking. Therefore they have asked her to keep out. It’s as simple as that.” The Sun 16/12/04.
