High risk Xmas

OFFICE workers at Tower Hamlets council have been banned from hanging up Christmas decorations at work in case they get hurt. Staff who have just moved into a newly-opened office building next to the town hall were barred via email from climbing to the ceiling to put up paper decorations in case they injure themselves and then sue the council. Fairy lights have also been banned in a bid to cut power bills and ensure safety standards. Mini-Christmas trees, tinsel and baubles are still allowed - provided there are no lights. The council insisted it had not cancelled Christmas, however, saying it intended only to staff not to climb on to desks to put up decorations for fear they would fall. Staff could still celebrate Christmas with tinsel, baubles, and other decorations, the council said. Daily Mail 23/11/06.
