Party parts pooper

THE PERILS of holding a Christmas party have been spelt out by safety campaigners, urging firms to make sure their staff do not injure themselves by dancing on desks or photocopying parts of their body. Similarly, managers have been advised not to put up any mistletoe, in case it leads to complaints of sexual harassment. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the TUC have published a special checklist, saying that while they weren’t being “party poopers” they wanted to lessen the chances of workers ending up in hospital after a festive bash. They warn that candles, flaming puddings and smoking should all be banned at Christmas parties. Stepladders should be used to put up decorations, as using a swivel chair could cause an accident. And workers should resist the temptation to photocopy parts of their body, because of the risk of glass in painful places if the machine breaks. Mail on Sunday 10/12/04.
