Pull a cracker

POLITICALLY correct killjoys have pulled festive fun off the menu this Christmas by banning crackers. Bureaucrats have branded the seasonal novelties “dangerous objects”, because they contain gunpowder and are classed as explosives. High street giant Marks and Spencer has banned under-16s from buying crackers at their stores because of safety fears. Mum-of-three Natasha Burt, of Stillington, Teeside, who was asked to verify her age by a shop assistant at a branch of M&S at Monks Cross, York, declared the overnment legislation “political correctness gone mad”. Newcastle Sunday Sun 18/12/05.
